Kia Ora! I wrote up a list of words that I learned and found helpful to know before heading to New Zealand.

Kia Ora! As finals have come to a close, I am excited to finally be able to get some time off of academics. In the meantime, I plan to work as much as I can to save up money to study abroad and also spend time with my friends and family before its time to leave. So far here is what has happened since the last time I posted. 1. Visa Towards October, I applied for my visa and the process was relatively simple. Just fill out your personal information and answer all the required questions. The hard part in my opinion was uploading all the documents. Particularly, I needed a bank statement from the beginning of the year to prove that I had enough money to support myself on this trip. That took me a while to print all of it out but it was smooth sailing from there. After in November, I got an email saying my visa has been approved. All I needed to do from there was just print out my visa document and then show it when I travel. 2. Residence When it comes picking to your residence, just always be aware that you won't get your first pick. For me, I wanted Parnell Student Village but due to their lottery system, I was unable to get accommodations there. However, as an international student, you will receive guaranteed accommodations no matter what so they ended up placing me in Huia Residence. My option was to either accept their accommodation or give up my spot in the Huia Residence and wait list for the one I originally wanted. For me, I didn't want to risk the chance of having no accommodations at all so I opted to stick to Huia Residence. This way, I would have a place to stay and it was cheaper compared to all the other residences in terms of cost for a room all to yourself. 3. Registering For Classes Registering for classes is actually really good in terms of being able to get all your classes. This semester, I will be taking the following classes. 1. FINANCE 251: Financial Management (BUS 314 UH Equivalent) 2. INTBUS 201: Foundations of International Business (MGT 342 UH Equivalent) 3. ACC 222: Accounting Information Systems (ACC 409 UH Equivalent 4. MAORI 190: Kapa Haka 1 (Culture Class for fun!) While I was able to get all my classes, the downside is that there is only one scheduled time for each class when it comes to lectures. The classes with labs will however have some alternate times to the lab portion of it. Having said that, I was a little sad that I couldn't rearrange my schedule that much to get early classes. However, after changing some of my classes, I am really happy with how my schedule turned out.
For the first time, I finally get a day off on Thursdays! But that doesn't mean I'll be slacking off. Until school starts in early March, I'll be working from here on out! Signing off, Melissa |
